NCCS Regional Tournament

This past weekend Dan and I (along with KU) had the opportunity to attend the NCCS Regional Tournament in Lawrence, KS. There were teams in Lawrence from as far away as Minnesota, and Illinois, and they did not disappoint there was lots of athleticism on display at the Rec this past weekend!

Dan and I were at the Rec for almost four hours taking pictures, videos, sampling POWERADE, giving out headbands, and drawstring bags. We chose the NCCS Tournament over the first 30 minutes of the Jayhawk game, and I think we saw some better basketball too (not our best game this past weekend). The games were high paced featuring lots of very knowledgeable players, and were very entertaining. One of my personal favorites from the weekend was when a Missouri player drove the lane and essentially dunked on four people of the opposing team. This was a great lead into the dunk contest that followed the game. The fan-favorite was KU’s very own Angelo, he showed off a number of high-flying dunks, including an attempted windmill while jumping over a person (me). The winners of the NCCS Tournament this weekend also turned out to be from KU!

Dan and I only have one more sampling remaining and look forward to seeing the competition getting better and better as the playoffs move on. Good luck to all of the teams in the second week of the playoffs and we hope to see you all at our next POWERADE sampling!

By the way all of the pictures and videos from the tournament are posted on a separate website

Playoffs and Regionals

Jayhawks,

This weekend Andrew and I witnessed some of the best Intramurals basketball I’ve ever seen. I hope some of the KU teams were taking notes – these guys were good.

We were sampling at the NCCS Regional Intrurals tournament and it was a great time. We saw a ton of good basketball from a wide variety of schools. The winner on the men’s side?…. KU! Is this a sign for what’s to come in March Madness?? I hope so.

But seriously, it was a great tournament. The dunk contest on Saturday was amazing. Our friend Angelo had some great dunks in store for us. The crowd was definitely pleased. This guy is 5′9″.. Check him out

Seriously, check this guy for wings.

Anyways, week 2 of playoffs is underway and the competition is steadily increasing. My roommate Brian’s team got knocked out yesterday. I don’t know the details – but I know they lost by 30. OUCH.

Next sampling is Thursday so come get some POWERADE

See ya at the games.

Dan

Final week of the regular season

This week marked the end of the regular season for intramural basketball at the University of Kansas. All of the teams were working hard to try and get the best possible seeds in the end of the season tournaments to come, just as all of the NCAA teams have been doing all week. Dan and I watched some good competition at all three levels this week co-rec, non-competitive, and competitive. It is easy to see the improvement all of the teams have made in four short weeks of intramurals-regardless of what division they are playing in.

This week Dan and I were fortunate to capture lots of great pictures, and videos! Dan used a new camera this week and was able to get some great photos, while I was able to film some crazy dunks by one of the high-flying intramural players. Some of his dunks included a windmill, alley oop off of the track located above the basketball courts, and capped off by him flying over a player over four inches taller than him to throw down a sick dunk. If this last week was any indication of what is to come in the playoffs we are in for some good playoff games!

Also this blog couldn’t be complete without mentioning the Jayhawks of course. Yet again we sampled on another basketball game night, but to our surprise all of the teams showed up-zero forfeits. Between the 9 and 10 P.M games there was a large congregation in the weight room in front of the TV’s to watch the conclusion of the KU vs. Texas A&M game. It was good to see the Hawks win, and fun to share the victory with a good 30-40 other fans at the gym. Playoffs are scheduled to start in the following week so we are all looking forward to some great games to come.

The END of Regular Season

Hey guys,

This week was the end of the regular season of KU Intramurals Basketball. Time flies!

Andrew and I got out to sample on Monday night and we saw a lot of great basketball. Being the last day of the regular season teams were really playing hard to secure their spots in the playoffs.  I especially enjoyed being able to watch one of my roommate’s, Brian “The Claw” Clausen, games at 9:00 p.m.  The Claw was shutting down players all night! Check out the intensity on this guy’s face as he takes a breather:

In other news, Andrew was able to get some awesome dunk videos this week so make sure to check them out on the video page. Seriously, the are ridiculous! I better see at least one of them up for best videos this year.

When we finished up sampling, we were able to catch the end of the KU vs. Texas A&M on the TV’s in the Rec Center weight room. There was a crowd of at least 20people sitting on the workout machines below the TV we chose to watch the final minutes of the game. KU pulled through, but not without leaving us with yet another close win.

We’ll be back out there sampling on Sunday so make sure to come get some POWERADE and check out the games.

Week 3!

Finally blogging!!!! After two weeks of technical difficulties I have finally gotten my blog to the POWERADE site! My name is Andrew I am originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota and I am currently in my fourth year at the University of Kansas. This is my first semester as a POWERADE campus rep; I have enjoyed the first three weeks of sampling at the intramural games and look forward to working with Dan to bring you all lots of pictures, videos, and POWERADE the rest of the season.

Last night at the courts featured two close games a blow out, and a surprise visit from the KU men’s basketball teams very own Elijah Johnson. Elijah came out to cheer on some friends, and it worked the team ended up winning due to the mercy rule at halftime (55-15). Although most people are accustomed to seeing Elijah on the court, it was a nice change to see him taking time out to support his friends an fans. Dan and I will be out multiple times next week taking pictures, videos, and sampling so bring your A game. Good luck to all the intramural players and the Hawks this weekend! Rock Chalk
