Day Two Recap at NCCS National Flag Football Championships

A bright and sunny Day Two at the NCCS National Flag Football Championships was just what the doctor ordered after a rain-drenched Day One blanketed the fields on Tuesday. The single-elimination championships also began today in all three divisions. We’re down to four teams in each division with Semifinals being played in the morning and the Championships in the afternoon.

Men’s Division
The upset of the day came early when #18 Texas Southern took down #2 Cal State – Northridge 7-0. Defending champion #1 North Carolina A&T rallied down 19-6 to beat Angelo State 24-19 and will face #5 Kennesaw State in the first Men’s Semifinal. #3 UNC – Charlotte battles #10 UCF in the other Semifinal. If North Carolina A&T and UNC – Charlotte advance, it will be a rematch of last year’s championship.
Check out the complete men’s bracket.

Women’s Division
#1 Florida A&M will try to defend their title against #4 UCF in the first Semifinal. #2 Howard University and #6 Texas State will battle in the second Semifinal. FAMU, Texas State, and Howard will enter the semifinal undefeated. Can FAMU make it two years in a row? Check out the full women’s bracket.

Co-Rec Division
The Quarterfinals were made for upsets; at least during Co-Rec competition today. #1 Texas A&M Corpus Christi fell to #10 Arizona State and #2 UNC – Charlotte was eliminated by #7 Texas Southern. ASU will take on #4 UCF in the first Semifnal and Texas Southern will battle Angelo State in the second Semifinal. Check out the complete Co-Rec bracket.

Playoff Never Go as Expected Do They?!?!…

After a playoff run full of controversy, intrigue, and upsets, one thing that wasn’t a surprise, was that powerhouses, State Champs and last years’ runner-up Lake Mag met in the Men’s Independent Championship last night. This game was hands down the best game of this season by far and it was fitting that the time allotted in regulation would not be enough to decide this game. Although the temperature was the lowest it has been all season, this game had more than enough fire power and excitement to keep everyone on the sideline till the end of the game. The game was tied 13-13 going into overtime, but don’t let the low score fool you, this game was dominant by great defensive highlight worthy plays, not offensive ineptness. After having that opportunity to get the game winning touchdown after stopping Lake Mag on defensive in the 1st O.T., Lake Mag defensive stood tall an intercepted State Champs QB’s pass on 4th down. To start the 2nd O.T., the State Champs QB was picked off again and Lake Mag was quick to capitalize. On 3rd down the Lake Mag QB threw a fade pass to a wide open received and unlike Buffalo wide receiver Steve Johnson, this receiver caught the game winner.

Now primed off defeating State Champs, Lake Mag is set to face off against the Frat champion, SAE, for the campus overall championship. I predicted the State Champs will win this game by at least 2 TDs.

In the Co-Rec bracket, last years’ champions TREAL is set to battle Shake n Bake for the championship. Although TREAL is the defending champs, their a heavy underdog in this matchup. The reason for this is that last year Shake n Bake were the overwhelming favorite but after some in house friction, they forfeited out of the playoffs. Even though that happened, it was a general consensus that Shake n Bake would have won easily, if they had faced off. Well all the what ifs will end after tonight. Will TREAL proof that their championship was no fluke last year or will Shake n Bake prove that they’re the real champions?

Also on deck tonight is the women’s overall championship. This game should be another walk in the park for the USF Club team, the USF Assassins who defeated their only real competition, BAMFS, last night in the Women’s Independent Championship. Tonight they play the Sorority champs, ADPI, and I predicted that the final score of this game will be around 56-0.
