POWERADE Fuels Close Game
In the opening game last night, two teams battled for playoff positioning and boy, it was a close one. At the half, the game was tied 26-26. Mike and I decided that we needed to up the ante for the game. Mike went to one team and I went to the other to inform them that the winning team of the game would net each athlete a ten pack of POWERADE. One kid said to me, “Now the stakes are raised!” He wasn’t kidding. The game was intense. It came down to the closing minutes. With the black team down by three, they had forty seconds to tie it up and they needed all of it. They began firing three’s up rapidly. None hit but there were at least four offensive rebounds. Finally, the green team grabbed the defensive board and the game was over. We handed them the free POWERADE and the smiles couldn’t have been bigger. They might have thought we were kidding or not serious, but once they had the POWERADE in their hands, the victory was even sweeter. On their walk out of the rec, the jealous stares of peers were directed toward the winning team.
