Young Gunnaz @ VT are looking for their 2nd Championship

Captain of the Young Gunnaz, Daniel Lee, powers his way down the key for a lay up.What do the Yankees, Patriots, and Young Gunnaz have in common? They’re what you’d call dynasties. Teams that win, win, and win more. Teams that don’t know the meaning of “quit” and don’t understand the concept of “loss.” As Virginia Tech enters its 2009 NCCS Playoffs, the Young Gunnaz will make a run at their second (that’s right, second) intramural basketball championship this year. Captained by the talented Daniel Lee, the Young Gunnaz have already won the 2009 Mens USOA 5-on-5 Basketball Tournament and are well on their way to win the NCCS Basketball Tournament as well. POWERade recently caught up with Young Gunnaz captain, Daniel Lee.

POWERade: It’s been an awesome season. As you look back, did you think your team would have this kind of success?

DANIEL LEE: Yeah, we’ve had an awesome time. I knew coming in that we were talented, but I didn’t anticipate this kind of success. We’ve practiced and played hard and I think were seeing the result of all that.

P: What’s the key to your success at basketball?

DL: I’d say just teamwork. We all know what were capable of and because of that we trust each other to get the job done. Any one of us on the floor can score, so no matter who gets the ball, good things are gonna happen. When you have a team that’s so close like ours, it makes winning a lot easier.

P: Do you have any rituals or warmups?

DL: Oh yeah. We meet up at D2 beforehand and have our pregame meal. Then let that settle. Shoot some free throws and layups about 30 min before the game. Next we run a few laps get our legs warmed up and run a few plays. At 10 min before the game starts, we stretch it out and calm ourselves down a little by just chillin on the court. We play our game. After we win, we shake hands with the other team and go refuel with some POWERade.

P: Awesome awesome. We noticed your team was really gettin pumped about the new ION4. What are your thoughts?

DL: It’s awesome. There’s a huge difference in how you feel after drinking the new ION4 compared to the older POWERade. And the Mountain Blast is easily best. Plus it matches are jerseys.

P: Sure does. Any tips for teams tryin to beat you?

DL: Hahaha. No not really. There aren’t any secrets—we’re unbeatable.

P: Sure seems that way. Well do you have any other thoughts or things you’d like to share?

: Um. Just wanna thank you guys for coming out and refueling us. Can’t tell you just how appreciative we are of the free POWERade. Makes  a huge difference in our success.

As you can see, the Young Gunnaz have a lot going for them and it’ll be interesting to see how the compete in the tourney.
